Dear Parents,

We write once more with an update in the rapidly evolving situation with Coronavirus.

Yesterday evening the Singapore Government updated its advice regarding family members or visitors to Singapore from Hubei Province (Wuhan is the capital of Hubei Province). Specifically, they are now requiring anyone who has had a visitor or family member in their household from Hubei Province only to also put themselves on a 14-day Leave of Absence. The College is following this new directive.

Please note that this does not include all visitors or family from mainland China – only those from Hubei Province.

The Government requires us to gather information in one place for contact tracing. We have therefore created a new survey to identify those members of our community who should be on a Leave of Absence. This is not a compulsory survey for all, but must be completed by the following members of our community:

  • Those students and staff who have travelled to China themselves (excluding Hong Kong and Macau) since 14 January (acknowledging, with apologies, that many of you have already filled out the previous form)
  • Those students and staff who have had family members or friends staying with them after 14 January who returned or visited from Hubei Province

Anyone who falls into either of these categories must complete this new survey by tomorrow, Friday, 31 January at 5pm and must be on the 14-day Leave of Absence. We apologise for the inconvenience caused if you have already filled out the previous form shared, and thank you for your support.

We have also taken the following additional actions and decisions:

  • There will be no non-essential visitors who are not members of our community allowed on campus; all essential visitors must complete a travel and health declaration and temperature check before admission to the campus
  • Any major activities or services involving non-UWCSEA community members that are taking place on campus between 3 and 17 February are being cancelled or postponed
  • Any activities or services involving sending our students off-campus between now and 17 February will be cancelled or postponed
  • We are cancelling all upcoming SEASAC events between now and 17 February. If your child is involved in SEASAC, you will hear details directly from the organiser.
  • The East Invitational Gymnastics Programme scheduled for 22 February will be rescheduled to May.

We will share details about events scheduled after 17 February in due course, based on information as it becomes available.

Further details of specific actions being taken in the various school sections and the Boarding House can be found on our Health Advisory site, the central point of information and updates from the College. You can also contact us with specific questions on healthadvisory@uwcsea.edu.sg. We will continue to keep you updated via email along with updating the Health Advisory site.

We remind the community to focus on following practical guidelines for hygiene and disease prevention, to seek medical attention if unwell, and ask you to work with us to support the health and wellbeing of everyone on our campuses. We also remind parents that we expect you to take and record your child(ren)’s temperature before they come to school each day.

Mr Lawrence Wong, who co-chairs the multi-ministry task force set up to counter the virus in Singapore, said, “These are not ordinary times. This is a very fluid and rapidly evolving situation. The key is not what we do at any point in time, but how swiftly we adjust our plans and actions.”

We appreciate our community supporting us as we respond to the situation and will continue to keep you updated on developments.

Warm regards,

Elizabeth Bray, Head of UWCSEA Dover
Graham Silverthorne, Head of UWCSEA East
