Dear Parents,

Today begins the second half of our circuit breaker period and we hope you and your families are taking good care. We write with some updates and reminders.

Community Health

A reminder that you must continue to inform the College if your child is observing a Leave of Absence (LoA), Stay Home Notice (SHN) or Quarantine Order (QO) by completing the isolation order declaration in CIMS (log in here). Please also make sure you update the student travel declaration. We must have a travel declaration for all students.

As of Monday, 4 May at 3pm the College has:

  • No cases of COVID-19 among the student community
  • No cases of COVID-19 among the staff community
  • 12 cases of COVID-19 among the wider family community

All of the cases were reported to the community previously and are outlined in the table here. We are pleased to hear that all those affected are recovering well. Across both campuses, we currently have no students on a Quarantine Order (QO), a Stay-Home Notice (SHN), or a Leave of Absence (LoA).

We remind families of the Health Advisory Site, which contains all recent communication and FAQs.

Supporting Our Family Community

A reminder of the measures in place for families at this time. You can see FAQs on how these will be implemented here.

Supporting Vulnerable Communities in Singapore

We have all watched the number of COVID-19 cases in the migrant worker dormitories rise over the last weeks. Although logically we know this is a result of active testing, which is ultimately positive, we can’t help but respond emotionally to the situation of the workers who are far away from their own families. As we guarantee the safety, wellbeing and financial stability of UWCSEA workers, many members of our community have asked how they can support vulnerable communities more widely. Some options for support are available here.

Recent Announcement Regarding Adjustments in Circuit Breaker Measures for Local Schools

On Saturday, the Government announced some easing of circuit breaker measures to support exam classes in local schools. We are awaiting clarification of implications for international schools, if any, and will inform families as soon as we are able.

We have had great reports from Principals and teachers about how well students are coping with the circuit breaker, rising to each challenge and staying positive. We know parents play a significant role in supporting students in staying positive. As a Grade 5 student shared, "My parents say CB sent them back to school, because now I teach them maths, make them do PE challenges, and show them how to make videos." From guidance on lessons to technical assistance to encouragement, sincere thanks for all of the support you are offering your children at home.

Yours sincerely,

Elizabeth Bray, Head of UWCSEA Dover
Graham Silverthorne, Head of UWCSEA East
